PNW UNITED WATER POLO CLUB. Provides an environment in which youth of all levels may develop to their fullest, whether they are beginners or world class athletes.
Since the establishment of the club in 1999 by Tim Reed, the club has seen amazing growth and success with many of our past athletes moving on to the college ranks to compete.
This process of development and achievement is designed to carry over into personal development outside water polo. Water polo offers an exciting and worthwhile experience in a young person's life. It should be understood that not every child can become a world class water polo player. However, the participants will gain from the experience whether or not they win. Trophies and medals run a poor second when compared to the aforementioned objectives; in many respects, water polo is a preparation for life.
The hardest worker in the pool does not always win; just as the most studious person does not necessarily receive the highest grade or the hardest worker in a shop earn the most money.
All athletes will learn, however, that to reach their potential, they must apply themselves and work diligently, consistently and conscientiously. This lesson will be of immeasurable worth, not only in each athlete's career, but in achieving goals throughout his/her life.
It is a basic assumption that for a competitive program to succeed, it must encompass and challenge all who participate, as well as follow a continuous developmental progression. The development of water polo players as competitors comes from the growth and maturation of an individual through discipline, hard work, trial and error, success and failure. It is important to realize that while water polo can be a small world, it must be only a part of an individual's life.
The most successful athletes have a good deal of positive support from parents, who realize that water polo is only a complement to the development of their child and not the child's only reason for existing. The experience of water polo can be most beneficial only if the goal setting is that of the athlete and not of the parent.
OUR HISTORY
What is now USA Pacific Northwest United Water polo was originally formed in 1999 as Mercer Island Aquatics (MIA) and became a non-profit organization in 2002 as Washington Water Polo Club to promote the sport of competitive water polo.
In 2007 we again evolved with a combining effort with T-Hills in Oregon to provide water polo training and prepare athletes for high school, college and national level water polo competition.
UNITED seeks to benefit no particular area over another and our purpose is simple: provide athletes a place to learn and play the game of water polo.
As UNITED grows, we find that members of the club have diverse levels of ability, from 10 year old beginners to college athletes. Our task is to bring all the differing skill levels and accompanying desires together into a unified program. Our greatest challenge is to provide an environment for learning that is both enjoyable for the newest athlete and challenging enough for our veterans. As our athletes progress we seek to provide ample opportunity for development so that each of our members may enjoy the sport.
We also know we have athletes whose goal it is to play in college and beyond. A goal to play beyond high school requires a greater commitment. We want to be a club where an athletes chance of being recruited is increased by providing the opportunity to play at higher competitive levels and we want to do this without excluding athletes Final Thoughts We want to meet the athlete’s current needs and also have a higher level for them to aspire. We want to help our athletes set and attain future goals through practice, effort and reinforcement. Experience has shown that the dedicated athletes who work hard year round will reach the goals they have set for themselves. We are proud to have you as part of the club. We want our players to compete in high school and then in college, we want our players to be part of National Teams. We have goals of making this club a nationally and internationally known organization. For our club to reach our overall goal we need to start at the beginning with the basics of hard work, practice and training until we have national caliber athletes. UNITED will provide this forum. Water Polo is exciting and growing and we are glad you have decided to be apart of this great sport.
