What the Past and Present have to say
"My son was introduced to water polo in the Seattle Summer rec league at age 8, but he didn't learn to play the game until he joined United."

Tom

Our daughter began playing water polo at the age of 9 and has played ever since. She started playing seasonally with our local swim club but switched to year-round training with United by age 11. It took a season or so to really fall in love with the game but now at age 17 she would have no other sport.
Besides the physical aspects of working out regularly, she has also grown in so many other ways. Her experience with this team and coach, Tim Reed, has taught her valuable lessons about privilege and responsibility, fun and accountability, teamwork and leadership. She has learned to be an independent traveler, has formed some life long friendships and knows the work and reward that comes with serious dedication.
She has every intention of playing water polo in college but if she were unable to ever swim again she would walk away from these years with United not just an incredibly strong athlete but a better person. As a parent, I can think of no better gift to my child than those bestowed by this experience.

Like a diamond cutter you've made these girls shine for life.

Thank you Tim

I have had the experience of playing collegiate water polo under four different college coaches as well as playing on the National Eastern Zone team.  My five years playing for Tim Reed taught me the fundamentals and mindset that allowed me to succeed and grow at both the collegiate and national level.  In my collegiate career I did not come across a coach as knowledgeable, or as talented in teaching the game to his players, as Tim Reed.  His program taught me hard work and discipline; valuable skills that I’ve used to succeed both in and out of the pool.

Our daily lives of the past 10 years have revolved around Tim Reed and his water polo programs for our 3 children…who are now young adults.  All 3 participated in Tim’s programs from the first year he came to the northwest to our youngest leaving his program just a little over a year ago to go to participate in college water polo at the division 1 level.

Today when our kids are sitting around the dinner table talking about the times with Tim and his program they might bring up the best times, winning games, learning great life skills while traveling on adventures with Tim.  They might bring up the worst times, learning to realize that they always have room for improvement, they might have to work harder than they thought in order to achieve their dreams, that they will get a few major bumps and scrapes physically and emotionally on long the way…but because of these lessons and skills, those times are all blended into one great memory.  To this day they see Tim whenever they are home.

For me, as a mom, watching water polo, I’m amazed when at these collegiate tournaments and I’m watching all of these kids from Tim’s programs and I am so incredibly proud of how these young people handle themselves in the pool and what great fundamental skills and knowledge of the game they have gained.

It’s a great program…not one for the weak though…you have to be willing to live through some wicked schedules, some tough times of watching your kid struggle, but in the end … it’s all good…it’s all great!

Having witnessed an amazing transformation of two of my boys from juvenile swimmers to national team water polo players with Tim Reed has been the most wonderful and satisfying experience in last ten years in our family.  Brian leveraged his water polo skills into a young athlete and scholar at Claremont College. We both travelled to Croatia this summer to see Eugene play in the world stage as a youngest member on the USA water polo team.  All the credits go to Tim Reed and his efforts to drive the kids to excellence.

Needless to say, water polo has been the most important anchor in their emotional growth as well as physical.  We owe Tim a permanent gratitude.

Thank you, Tim

As one of the original players from the inaugural 1999 team it has been great to witness the program’s phenomenal growth. In a few short years Washington Water Polo Club expanded to field teams in 12u, 14u, 16u, and 18u men’s and women’s competition.  Tim’s approach ingrains in his players a complete understanding of the games fundamental concepts.  These basic and essential skills provide his athletes with the necessary skills to compete on a national level.  Upon leaving the program you will have gained a strong work ethic, discipline, team skills, and national / international playing experience.  As a coach for a club team in the Los Angeles area I can say Tim’s program stands out due to the incredible attention given to the games fundamentals and the focus on team concepts.  Playing for Tim gave me the opportunity to succeed in NCAA water polo and now has allowed me to pursue a master’s degree as a graduate assistant for a collegiate water polo team.

Thanks to Coach Tim our daughter has found a sport she loves.  She wants to play college ball because of the outstanding program at United.  More importantly she has learned the value of hard work and balancing academics and training.  Coach Tim is developing players for life.  United Water Polo has made a tremendous positive impact on our daughter.

We could go on forever Tim but kept it short for the web site.  Thanks a million for all you have done for Sierra.  Three seasons ago she wouldn't get out of the car without a fight and now she wants to play year round.

Tim Reed is one of the best coaches I have ever had, and as an athlete, I have had many. The best thing about him is that he's humorous but at the same time, serious about the sport. Over the years, he has taught me the true meaning of dedication and hard work. When I first started, the practice was the hardest thing I have ever physically done, but after about three weeks, I could catch, pass, shoot, and I was even egg beating. I think United Water Polo is a great club because you learn to balance out school, practices and games, and your social life.

Tim Reed and United Water Polo

I can’t believe six years have gone by since Sarah started working with Tim.  Tim has done a wonderful job of taking a recreational swimmer and developing her into a water polo player.  Sarah enjoys the challenge—Tim demands your best, both mentally and physically.  Practice is used to shore up weaknesses and solidify fundamentals, while games are the place to utilize strengths.  For Sarah, the experience and exposure of national and international competition have been invaluable.  We had no idea that Sarah would have so many opportunities – from training in Hungary to playing in tournaments in Florida and California.

Tim has given her the confidence, skills and experience, needed to compete at the NCAA Division 1 level.  In the Fall of 2010 Sarah will begin playing for the University of Maryland.  United Water Polo was a great opportunity for Sarah.  We couldn’t have asked for more.
